I've tried this (saying "I'm sorry you're upset") for a few years since I first saw you speak and it does work. My question is this.... several times the person says "Don't be sorry. Its not your fault I am sad, upset, etc". How should I respond to this part of the conversation?

Dear Scott:
Great article. I'm glad I ran across it in the Balaton Marketing newsletter.
We all need to be reminded of the basics.
Congratulations, also, on the great title of your book!

When I was reading you article "To Trust or not to Trust..." I understood it exactly the way you explained it here in the next article "The meaning of the word Surrender", and more. For me it is absolutely beautiful that you are saying exactly the same what Jesus is saying the Bible, but without using His name. You actually might me an atheist, but you also totally agree with what God tells us. Some people choose to belive and obey God's word and some not. I do, and I always enjoy very much your articles.
thanks

Karl,
Thanks so much. It's music to my ears when I hear people "getting" the power in these distinctions and using them not only to empower themselves but also to empower others. Keep up the good work.
Scott

Dear Scott: I can't tell you how many times I've used the information on "It's Only A Conversation" when speaking before groups. I LOVE watching the heads nod up and down as people finally make the connection and realize what they do every minute of the day, all day long. Yes, yes, yes. You're right. It DOES all start with your thinking. That conversation going on in your head all day long colors everything around you: How you respond to other people, how you feel about what you have to do, how you plan your day.....and on and on. I can't remember a morning anymore when I don't get out of bed, start that conversation, and remind myself of your seminars at SEMA...."It's Only A Conversation". Before I think even ONE negative thing, I remind myself that at that very moment I am about to set the tone for my entire day. I truly mean it, and I have written to you before to tell you, that you have had the most profound effect on my life. Thank God you gave up your law practice and pursued this path because you truly have a tremendous gift, a vision that most people never acquire. I'm looking forward to receiving the next installments of this lesson!

Scott: This one topic of yours had one of the most profound effects on me that I've ever experienced. I have used this to understand not only myself, but others around me. You have a tremendous gift in your ability to see what is right in front of all of us but most of us are too blind to see it. Thank you for your insight and the impact you have on the lives of so many.
